The Union Shield Reverse introduced in 2010
Say good bye to the modern day "Lincoln Memorial Cent". Remember when you could find a wheat penny in a pile of lincoln cents. 1/50 used to be the ratio of a wheat penny in the 1980's - 1990's. With the new Union Shield Reverse it will only be a matter of time until the Memorial reverse starts to disappear from circulation. Now the wheat penny is getting to be as rare as the Indian Head penny in circulation, with memorial pennies disappearing (especially the pre 1982 copper memorial pennies). I did an experiment to see how many pre 1982 memorial pennies were still in ciruclation and out of 500 pennies I only found 20 (1 in every 25). The moral of the story.... START HOARDING OR COLLECTING PRE 1982 MEMORIAL CENTS) The value will start to slowly go up now.
2008 was the last time the memorial reverse was used. The 2009 Bicentennial Reverse featured 4 different reverse's. 2010 introduced the Union Shield and has been the reverse ever since.
