Two-Cent Piece (1864 - 1873)
This denomination was very short lived. But that's just my 2 cents......
The 1864 Coin Act called for a 2 Cent copper coin. This civil war era coin was America's first and only 2 cent piece. It was the first coin to carry "IN GOD WE TRUST".
The coin was designed by James B Longacre. There were decreasing mintages each year, as other minor coins such as the Nickel proved more popular. It was abolished by the Mint Act of 1873.
The coin weighs around 6.22 grams with a composition of 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc. All of them were struck at the Philadelphia Mint.
