Minted at only 484,000 in existence, weighing in at 3.11 grams, made up of 95% copper and 5% Tin and Zinc, with the designers initials (Victor David Brenner) engraved on the bottom of the reverse - This coin is the most popular small cent and is the most sought after for any coin collector!
The Lincoln Cent was created for Lincoln's 100th Birthday. Previously, the Mint tried to stay away from presidents. Victor D Brenner's design had Lincoln's bust facing right. Controversy arose when people didn't like VDB on the reverse under the wheat stalks. VDB was put back on in 1918, just smaller and on the shoulder of Lincoln.
