U.S. Half Cent
The U.S. Half cent was minted from 1793 - 1857. There were five different designs with the half cent. It was authorized by the coinage act of 1792 on April 2nd, 1792. The coin was made of 100% copper and was valued at 5 milles (or 200th of a $1). The coin was slightly smaller than a U.S. quarter with a diameter of 22 mm (1793), 23.5 mm (1794 - 1836), and 23 m m(1840 - 1857). The coin was discontinued by the coinage act of February 21, 1857. Fun fact: All of these coins were produced at the Philadelphia Mint (P).
