The 1982 Lincoln Penny - Why are there 7 coins to collect???
The 1982 Lincoln penny has 7 different coins to collect because it was a transitioning period. Before 1982 the Penny was struck with a mixture of Copper and zinc. In 1982 it was declared that the penny will be copper plated with a zinc finish.
The Philadelphia Mint had 4 different 1982 Lincoln pennies. They were Large Date Copper, Small Date Copper, Large date Zinc, and small date Zinc. The Denver Mint had 3 different 1982 Lincoln pennies. They were the Large Date Copper, Large date Zinc, and small date Zinc. This was all due to the Copper prices rising! Remember if you get any Lincoln penny before 1981, it is made of more copper than the regular now-a-day penny! If Copper ever rises like crazy.... you will see people hoarding dates before 1981 similar to how silver rose and created hoarding for coins before 1964! |
